Grants
Kirsti and Tor Johansson’s Heart and Cancer Foundation supports Finnish research to help treat heart disease and cancer. The Foundation seeks innovative projects and active researchers whose work contributes to the development of their respective medical fields. The Foundation also supports researchers who are in the early stages of their careers.
Grant application period
- Grants for heart disease research can be applied for yearly 1-31 March.
- Grants for cancer research can be applied for yearly 1-30 November.
- Applications can be submitted via online service during the application period.
- We do not accept applications via postal service.
Grants are awarded for:

Finnish research done in a Finnish research institution.

The Foundation may also provide funding for Finnish research conducted abroad.

Long-term funding of doctoral dissertation research (including other than finalizing).

Funding is normally granted for one (1) year, with a maximum of three (3) years as a discretional option.

The Foundation may finance reasonable expenses for conference proceedings related to heart disease or cancer research.

We support living expenses related to research visits at foreign research institutions.
Grants are not awarded for:
- Printing or publication costs.
- General administrative costs.
No taxes are withheld from the grants. Separate provisions apply to the grants paid through research institutes. Read more here.
